Verifying your website with Google means proving to Google that you own the website. This process is typically done through Google Search Console and involves adding a specific code or file to your website. Verification allows you to access detailed information about your site's performance on Google Search, submit sitemaps, and troubleshoot issues that may affect your site's visibility.
For website visitors, this verification is not directly visible. It's primarily for the website owner’s benefit to manage and optimize their site for better performance on Google Search. However, the benefits of verification, such as improved search ranking and site health, can indirectly enhance the user experience for visitors by making it easier for them to find and navigate your website.
Adding Your Domain to Google Search Console
Open Google Search Console;
Locate your website and click on it:
In the menu hit '+ Add property':
You will see two options: Domain and URL Prefix. To verify your ModelCentro website you need to choose URL Prefix.
Enter your site's URL including https:// before the domain name. Hit the 'Continue' button;
A window with the verification will pop up on your screen. Download the provided HTML file to your device. Do not close this page yet!
To stay verified, don't remove the file, even after verification succeeds.
Now login to your ModelCentro account here.
Go to My Site > Apps > Extended Website Analytics > Webmaster Tools and enter the downloaded HTML file.
Tip: You cannot upload the file itself in Webmaster Tools, what you can do is locate the file on your device, copy its name, and paste it. For successful verification, we do not recommend renaming the HTML file;
Return to the Google Search Console and hit the 'Verify' button. A green notification should appear notifying you that your Ownership of the website was successful!
Click 'Done' to close it or 'Go to property' for further changes.
To learn more about the verification or check the additional verification methods open your Google Search Console, select the needed website, and scroll down to Settings > General settings > Ownership verification.
You can see a history of ownership events, including owners added and removed, successful and unsuccessful verification attempts, and cases where a previously known verification token has been removed.
To see ownership event history for a property:
Open the Users and permissions page in property settings (Settings > Users and permissions).
Click Ownership history.
